We have recently gone to Mrs. Meyer's which was the Monday right after the Super Bowl, and this was perfect because we could really show them what happens when you work together as a team. We are trying to get the kids more interacted. We are recently contacting with the SCE gym teacher who is wanting to go and get working with the kids and showing them the different aspects of sports.

Throughout the second semester from the start we instantly decided to change the lesson plans depending on the grades we were teaching. Between k-1 we stick with the simple less complex lessons and as we get to 2-4th grades we really try to focus more on the teamwork accept, and the values of following different meal and diets etc. We really think that as we are getting this back into the swing that we are going to start taking the kids outside and get them doing and or demonstrating some of their favorite sports that would be offered at the high school. Today we also went into a second grade room Mrs. Meyer, and she really enjoyed the time we spent with them working on teamwork and what it takes to have fun while playing sports, and the importance of time management. These past two weeks, we have been really trying to get more involved with the classrooms. We decided to start with one grade, and make our way up, so we decided to email all the kindergarten teachers throughout the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County, and we had 4 teacher respond right away with interest of us getting into the class. We then used our google sheets that we created a couple weeks ago to get the teachers filled into the schedule, and see what all we had available. We were really excited to get into the different classrooms, and see the different kids. We were able to go and get into Mrs. Copeland's classroom, and the kids were so excited and so happy to see that we were there and showing them what we were teaching them. We also talked to the gym teacher at SCE, because she wanted us to expand our project into the classroom and show the kids the different sports. We are going to be continuing this project into the spring, and we are excited to get the kids out of the classroom and getting them more active. This is a picture from Mrs. Copeland's classroom, when the kids are drawing on their iPad about a sport the recently learned about. This girls drawing was her cheerleading.
Recently we have been trying to expand our project to other schools, and we also started to get more reorganize throughout this project. We have now expanded our project to New Pal Elementary and started off with the Kindergarten Mrs.Story's class room. She wasn't recently in the class when we went, but the sub and other teacher helper had seemed to really enjoyed what we were doing with our project, and how well the kids were involved with our project.
With getting more organized we have created a google sheets document that has the date and time, the teachers name, and what we are planning to do during that period we are with these kids. My group and I have found out that this makes us more occupied throughout or class time, and we aren't just sitting around doing nothing. With the expansion we have decided to do more than one school throughout the week. We knew that if we went and conquered more schools, then we would be able to expand our project even more in the spring. In the spring we are planning on taking the kids out and getting them involved with some of the sports we introduced them to earlier in the year. We are excited to see how well this project is about to take off, and we are going to make sure to be more organized and much more prepared. This past couple of weeks we have been moving forward in order to make this project expand. We have now moved up to first grade. We have recently contacted the second grade teacher at SCE, Mrs.Benson, to move on and up in grades to forward our lessons. We have also started to make a spread sheet with dates that we are available, and what days we are going to meet with different teachers so that way we can expand and do more things throughout our time here in the classroom. Now looking forward we are starting to contact other schools, to get their kids and us more involved throughout the project. We are hoping to get all the grades and classes in before winter break, that way when it comes to the spring time we will be able to expand our project and take the kids out side where they will be able to practice the sports we have introduced them to. We are also going to try to get in contact with the SCE gym teacher. She was wanting us to come in and talk to her about different activities that we could help her with, and she could help us expand our project. We are really excited because we know that our project is about to take off in a positive direction, as we start to expand more throughout the schools. This picture is us in Mrs. Kleiman's first grade classroom. As you can tell they are very intrigued by what we were doing, and getting involved with what we are doing. It has been this way throughout the two classrooms we have been to, and we are also hoping that it will keep keeping the upbeat, and happy about what we are doing. This is our schedule, and we are planning to fill in all these dates, so that way we know the specific date and time, and what we are planning to do during these class periods. Mr. Large has been helping us out a lot and this was one of his ideas, so that way we can stay busy, and make sure we are making the best out of what we can do.
NP Play has been making some good progress. We have done two separate lessons in a kindergarten classroom, and the teacher we went to Mrs. Bowman, said it was two really good lessons, and that she believes that there are opportunities for us to add such as getting kids in the gym and having them do the different activities. The first lesson we taught was introducing the kindergarten kids into the different high school athletics, and the different opportunities we have offered at our high school. Along with that we also talked about the importance of trying in school, and that you don't have to be the best athlete to play a sport, because if you don't have the grades then you won't be able to be successful in your athletics. The second lesson that we taught was the difference in nutritional values. The difference between the good foods and the bad foods, and along with that we also showed them how much sugar is actually in a soda pop. The kids where surprised and really wanted to be involved with the different activities which was one of our goals for the nutrition lesson. After we had finished the second lesson with the kindergarten class we got an email from Mrs. Bowman telling us how well it went, and how well we interacted with the kids. Our next step is to make our way up to the first grade wing and to get those kids now introduced into the high school athletics and the different type of nutritions. We met with first grade teacher Mrs. Klieman, and we are going to teach our first lesson during our study hall. When we talked to her about what we were planning on doing, she was so excited to see us get back into her class and see what we are going to do in order to get the kids more aware of the importance of school, and the different types of sports that are given. We hope to get through all the grade k-4 and then make our way back to all the classroom. After we get this we plan on taking it to other schools and trying to get through all the different grade levels and different classrooms so that way we can get all the different sports and nutritions into kids head so that way they know why it is all important. Down below I have provided the two different power points that we have used when teaching our lessons. NP Play came to be throughout three high school student athletes that were wanting to get kids introduced into high school athletics, and not only that but teach kids the importance of high school athletics, teamwork, sportsmanship, and that you have to be active in academics, so that way you can actually participate in your high school athletics. When a football player, soccer player, and basketball player come together to get kids more active it also started to turn some gears in our mind. We started to think about the importance of getting kids out and active more and more each day. When we went and found out the different activity posts about kids getting out we saw that in different locations the activity levels are decreasing in numbers. Therefore our goal is not only to get out and get kids introduced into high school athletics, our goal is to make sure that elementary kids know the importance of working hard in school, and staying active and healthy in order to play a high school sport. NP Play was a project that was hard to get started, and we knew that there would be a lot of trial and errors while going into this project. An error we had was not making sure that the exact stats we had were actually right. Supposedly kids are becoming more active in school then ever before, however when you're looking at a classroom their free time is taken up by an electronic. Electronics are all the kids are worried about now in school, they want to get onto their iPads after they're done with their work instead of grabbing a book, or a teacher going out of her way to show the effectiveness on not having your face in your iPad. The three of us decided that to get kids noses out of their iPads, we needed to introduce them into high school athletics, and actually having them get out and get active while also learning about the high school sports. Down below is our pitch idea that we gave to administration and the class, it got approved, and we are now going around and getting kids out and active. |
